Open Water Classes

Learn to SCUBA Dive! SSI (Scuba Schools International) instructional classes meet on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday evenings for four weeks at the University of Arizona Student Recreation Center and then travel to San Carlos, Mexico for a weekend of check-out dives.

Classroom and pool instruction

Regular weekend classes may be scheduled as needed for small groups and private lessons. Regular class size is six to eight students; private lessons are subject to special pricing. "Referral" classes are possible by taking the pool & theory training in Tucson and Open Water certification in a resort such as Cayman Islands, Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, etc... There is an additional charge for referrals if we issue the card

Cost Includes: Use of SCUBA equipment throughout training (compass when needed), snorkeling gear rental for first pool session, and use of training videos. SSI text, study guide, and logbook cost from $26 to $36. Pool training is conducted at the University of Arizona Recreation Center Pool. These are by far the best facilities in Tucson! Our classes are small, and the pool is large and warm.

We are also certified NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors) and PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) instructors and offer those classes as well.

Certification dive trips to Mexico are EXTRA. See the dive schedule for options.

Certification Trip: TBD All instructional materials, SCUBA equipment, transportation to Mexico, meals and sleeping accommodations aboard the El Duque, a camp-aboard dive boat, are provided. SCUBA Schools International (SSI) certification will be awarded upon successful completion of the course. No previous SCUBA diving experience necessary.

Cost: $375 for Uof A students
Includes: Everything(even accommodations and round-trip transportation)! Non-UA students are welcome! The UA facility guest fee surcharge is an additional 10%.
