San Carlos offers everything you could want for a fantastic vacation getaway.

You'll arrive in San Carlos via a Sonora scenic highway that varies from four to eight lanes, and be greeted by the majestic Tetakawi Mountain, the most reknowned landmark in the area. San Carlos is an hour from the capital of Sonora, Hermosillo, and is home to several thousand American retirees. It is located a short 20-minute drive from the heart of Guaymas, a coastal city of 150,000 that is the birthplace of three Mexican presidents. It is linked by air service to Tucson and Phoenix, and to several other cities in Mexico. It is roughly a five-hour drive from Tucson and seven-hour drive from Phoenix. The highway connecting San Carlos to the US is a modern, 4-lane, divided highway with rest stops and Pemex gasoline stations at frequent intervals.

This wonderful bayside village has first-class hotels, restaurants, night spots, an 18-hole golf course, and two marinas, including the largest natural marina in all of Latin America.

The San Carlos Marina is located in one of the most beautiful bays in the Sea of Cortez, and it is the largest natural port in Mexico. Clear turquoise water is surrounded by mountains and peaks that make San Carlos a favorite destination for Sonorans, Arizonans and other residents from the American southwest. Fishing and diving are among the best in Mexico and temperatures are comfortable year-round. San Carlos has close to 365 days a year of sunshine.

The weather is mild--usually calm through early October with mostly sunny days year round. Average temperatures range from 64 degrees in December to 89 in July, with an average annual rainfall of ten inches. Water temperatures range from the 80s in the summer to the low 60s in the winter.

Grupo Celgrossr has developed 400 boat slips at the marina, and 200 more are pending.

Diving is one of the most popular passions of visitors to San Carlos, whether you're a first-timer or a veteran. Crystal clear and constantly calm waters provide an incredible showcase for more than 800 species of maritime life. Two artificial reefs, a sunken ferry and several smaller wrecks make the San Carlos and nearby Guaymas areas an ideal place to learn to dive and visit repeatedly.

The Sea of Cortez, some 1,200 kilometers (approx. 800 miles) long, 222 kilometers (139 miles) wide and up to 3,500 meters (11,000 feet) deep, was formed some five million years ago as the result of the San Andreas fault, which separated the Baja California peninsula from the continent, creating a home for more than 800 variety of fish and more than 3,000 species of maritime animals including sharks, whales, and dolphins. Many of these species are unique to the Sea of Cortez, which is also known as the Gulf of California. The Sea unites unique features of the mouth of the gulf, bringing together species from both the tropical south and north.

San Carlos has activities for everyone, divers and non-divers alike. Shopping, hiking, sea kayaking, swimming, golf, horseback riding, sail boarding and more are available for both adults and children.
